Liberation Music is delighted to announce Husky’s worldwide record deal with renowned American label Sub Pop, as well as a huge Australian headline tour and a slew of international tour dates across multiple countries.
The Melbourne band will be the first-ever Australian group to be signed to Sub Pop, joining the likes of world-class acts Fleet Foxes, Beach House and The Head and the Heart, and grunge legends Nirvana and Soundgarden.
Husky had a steady climb throughout 2011, winning Triple J unearthed, releasing their debut album Forever So to critical acclaim and touring nationally at sold-out venues. The band has supported Australian heavyweight Gotye and international stars Laura Marling, Devandra Banhart, and Noah and The Whale. Taking on the international market is a natural step for the band, and signing to Sub Pop is an extraordinary opportunity for them to do so.
“Sub Pop is enamoured with the Melbourne quartet, Husky,” says President of Sub Pop Jonathan Poneman. “The band’s strength rests in its infectious, evocative songs and stirring live performances.”
Husky’s album Forever So will be released globally through Sub Pop over coming months.
To celebrate the deal, Husky is hitting both the local and international touring circuit. Following recent national appearances at Laneway Festival, the band will tour throughout Germany with European duo BOY performing more than 15 shows to over 20,000 people, then perform at SXSW in Austin, Texas, at Canadian Music Week and in New York City and LA.
In April, the band will return home to embark on an extensive national tour in support of their current single, ‘The Woods’, for which the stunning video clip by visionary animator Brendan Cook (Gotye, Temper Trap) has just been unveiled. ‘The Woods’ tour will kick off with a performance at Perth’s West Coast Blues and Roots festival and take the band to all major cities, so fans across the nation can share in the celebrations.
